About Us

Supporting Youth in Crisis

SAFE Passage Indiana accepts male and female youth ages, 10 through 18, on a 24-hour emergency basis, for a 30-60 day diagnostic evaluation. With a compassionate, holistic, and evidenced-based approach, we aim to provide a temporary, stable environment in which we address any harmful behaviors a child may be exhibiting all while completing a psychological evaluation. 

The program is designed to serve youth who present a myriad of needs including, but not limited to:

  • • Youth that are in acute distress
  • • Youth displaying atypical and disruptive behavior patterns
  • • Criminal behaviors
  • • Disruptive behavior (including running away)
  • • Family turmoil
  • • Substance abuse
  • • Mental health issues
  • • Selfharm
  • • Negative school behavior
  • • Assaultive behavior

Providing Trauma-Informed and Gender-Specific Care

Our approach to providing age and gender specific trauma-responsive services begins with an understanding and sensitivity to trauma-related issues. Services are provided within an environment that fosters safety – physical, psychological and emotional. 

About Our Program Services

Youth placed at SAFE Passage Indiana receive stabilization in a short-term, residential setting in an effort to stabilize behaviors, assess emotional and cognitive functioning, and evaluate the current environmental and family dynamics of the youth. 

Our highly skilled and experienced team of medical, psychological, behavioral, and psychiatric professionals work together to create an individualized plan that will provide DCS, Juvenile Probation and Juvenile Courts critical information regarding each youth and service recommendations that are tailored to meet the needs of the youth in the least restrictive setting. 

Exclusionary Criteria

The exclusionary criteria include the following:

 

1. Youth younger than 10 or older than 18

2. Youth who present with substance use as primary reason for admission or need a medical model detoxification

3. Youth with medical/behavioral presentation so acute that participation in the program is not safe (active psychosis, homicidal and/or suicidal ideation that compromises safety, active self-harming/specific medical conditions requiring medical care not available on site)

4. Youth with documented/present with primary sexually harmful behavior that has not been successfully treated

5. Youth with documented IQ index 60 or Below or severe Developmental Delays

6. Youth who present with primary antisocial behaviors that are judged at pre-admission to not be associated with psychiatric or developmental or neurological conditions
